There are different documents setting out rights, and the one that applies depends on where care is given. Staff must be familiar with and protect each patient’s rights. A copy of the Residents’ Rights is given to each person upon admission to a long-term care facility (Figure 3-1). The Patients’ Bill of Rights is given to patients upon admission to a hospital. Persons receiving care in their homes are given a copy of the Clients’ Rights. Each of these documents is similar and emphasizes the right of the patient, resident, or client to: ● Be treated with respect and dignity; this includes the right to privacy and confidentiality.

The name badge may state only your first name and title. Some facilities do not list workers’ last names on name badges, as a security measure. Wear your uniform only when you are on duty.
